February 18th 2010 saw the judging of the reborn dolls and porcelain dolls for the Royal Canberra Show, that was to be held on the following weekend.

There were a variety of both reborn and porcelain dolls with many creative minds behind the entries giving a wide range of effects.

The porcelain doll section was judged by Ros McKissock, who has been a porcelain doll artist for many years and is an excellent judge of her category. There were some very original pieces in this section and some traditional dolls and choosing best across such a wide variety of styles is not easy.

The reborn/vinyl doll section was judged by Lyn Conlon who has a background of many years as a porcelain doll artist and 4 years as a reborn doll artist. Lyn is also a noted doll dealer and here website can be visited through this link

Each doll in both the porcelain and the reborn section are judged on their general appearance, how they have been painted, accessorized and the way the person in that particular section has completed their doll.

There are categories including seniors and handicapped, professional, artists of under 2 years experience and over 2 year’s experience. This gives the novice a chance to win an award as well as those who may be challenged in their art form.

One reborn artist from the novice section showed her talent and won 5 awards, including 1st, 2nd and 3rd in her section, and also Grand Champion. The Grand Champion award is chosen by both the porcelain and the reborn judges determining which of the dolls awarded first place would be the overall Grand Champion. What an exciting time that was for reborn artist Kiren Towers when she discovered she had won 5 awards and she has been reborning for less than 18 months.

To all of the porcelain doll winners and the reborn doll winners of the doll section of the Royal Canberra Show, congratulations on your entries and well done.
