Colliii.com: How did it feel to be post nominated by the jury
Raquel: I feel so happy and thankful to the jury for the post nomination. The morning it was announced, a collegue called me to check the website. Another one texted me. I loved to learn about it from people who value my work and appreciate me. It really made my day. Besides, it makes me feel proud to be nominated with great international artists.
Colliii.com: Tell us about your doll. Why did you choose that one I made it few months ago.
Raquel: It was an order for a special effects company. After having delivered a few babies to them, they ordered a monkey. I immediately though of Ming Tao because of its realism.
When I showed the kit to my customer he said "This is a chimpanzee" and I said "no, it is an orangutan," to which he replied "I do not care, I just want a chimpanzee." The very first thing I thought of was the large amount of hair I had to root. However, I love challenges so I went for it. I have to thank my customer for insisting because I am finally satisfied with the result. It really looks like a chimpanzee. So much so that a dog was about to eat it while I was taking pictures of it at a park next to my house. I can laugh about it now but I had a hard time holding the monkey in the air while waiting for the dog's owner to hold him tight.
Colliii.com: You are also a succesfull doll retailer in Spain. How do you find time to Reborn?
Raquel: I honestly do not know. I am a very restless person, always on the move. I have a husband and two little daughters, an online reborn retailer shop and recently, along with a colleague, established a Spanish reborn artist platform to create higher quality reborn dolls and deliver online courses. Besides, I am organizing the first Spanish reborn trade show. After that, I will have some time for my creations.
Colliii.com: Some of your work has been used in films and television programmes. How did you make those contacts ?
Raquel: I did not do anything. They contacted me, saw my website and became fascinated with my work. I have been working for a special effect company this year. Several babies that I made for them appeared on TV shows, photography session and TV ads. It has been quite gratifying. I felt so highly valued in a more professional way and I also had the chance to get to know the exciting world of special effects. I was even offered to use their workshop for my creations.
