Sigrun Heck (41) like so many before her had a talent and interest in sculpting long before she found sculpted baby dolls in Ebay. That was three years ago, and 2 years ago she created her first sculpted baby.
Last November she won 2 Colliii Awards (Best Special Effects and Best Over all) for her OOAK doll "Pia". Since then there has been no stopping her sculpting as you will see through this interview and her pictures...
Colliii.com: Hello Sigrun. What was your motivation to take part in the Colliii Awards 2008?
Sigrun: To be honest with you I am normally very sceptical of competitions, but I like testing out new things and as the Colliii Awards only started in 2008 I thought I would give it a try. It was exciting really, because I didnt have anything to lose and I thought who knows where it might end up! I had sculpted the baby anyway so I thought why not. The hardest thing was not telling anybody that voted that it was my baby!
Colliii.com: Your doll Pia won the "Special Effects" award. Why did you choose Pia for the competiton?
Sigrun: Well I sculpted Pia for the specially for the competition. But I didn´t concentrate on "Special Effects". I sculpted her after using a photo for inspiration. She was the only OOAK that I could have registered as she was the only baby I had!
Colliii.com: How much of a surprise was it when she won?
Sigrun: Well I hadn´t really counted on wining anything. It was a shock for sure. After she made it through the qualification I started to dream a little bit more. When we went to the award ceremony I couldn´t remember how many and what awards were going to be given. So I was very surprised when I won those 2 awards. I am still over the moon about it, I would like to thank the jury for their votes as well as those of the online voters that got me to the finals!
Colliii.com: Have you still got Pia, what are you going to do with her?
Sigrun: No, I don´t have Pia anymore. I am however very proud to say that a German company has bought her and they are going to make a vinyl kit of her! I hope that those that Reborn her will have lots of fun doing it!
Colliii.com: What has being part of the first Colliii Awards meant for you? How has it affected you?
Sigrun: Well, from begining to end it was a lot of fun. Then I went to the Eschwege doll show to see the other doll presented, and the awards dinner ceremony was a lot of fun too! What has been amazing for me was the fact that a company bought Pia and is going to make a kit of her, that is amazing for me! All that has helped motivate me to carry on and expand and improve my art.
Colliii.com: Are you going to enter again this year for the Colliii Awards 2009?
Sigrun: I would love to be a part of it again! I am not getting my hopes up about winning another award though, but who knows!
